Since 1982 (over twenty-five years ago), the Family Support Council
(as a private, non-profit, community-based organization) has been providing
services to the residents of Douglas County because it is the belief of the
Family Support Council, that all individuals live with dignity and respect, free
from mental and physical abuse as stated in our Vision Statement.
It is the Mission of Family Support Council, to promote
individual and family dignity and respect by means of education, prevention and
intervention: thereby giving all members of our community an opportunity to live
their lives free of family violence.
The Philosophy Statement of the Family Support
Council is that we believe all members of our community have the
right to access support services and quality programs that enhance individual
and family dignity, respect and wellness.
We believe that by empowering both individuals and families with
information, support and advocacy, through prevention, intervention and
education programs and by raising community consciousness, we will be delivering
needed services in a manner that is respectful, caring and compassionate and of
the highest professional quality.
Through our efforts we hope to build and maintain alliances with
other local resources and develop a sense of community responsibility and
belonging that helps assure a safe environment for individuals and families free
of abuse and violence.
In meeting those criteria set up in our Vision, Mission and Philosophy
Statements, we offer the people of Douglas County the following:
