Healthy Beginnings

Are you pregnant and don't know where to turn?

If you're a pregnant or parenting teen, there are services and resources available to you. This program is designed to help teens make informed, positive decisions regarding their responsibilities to themselves, their child(ren) and society.

Our Healthy Beginnings staff works with teens on an individual basis. Teen Group is a support group that meets at Douglas High School and City of Refuge to deal with numerous issues such as:

Your changing body	Picking up where you left off
Social, physical, & emotional needs	Family
The birth experience	School
The newborn	Social life
Nutrition	Parenting education

What can be learned in a parenting class?

Parenting education offers you a common sense approach to parenting. Classes can help you:

• Understand more about your child and about yourself as a parent

• Build your child's confidence and feelings of self-worth

• Understand your child's behavior and misbehavior

• Listen to your child, explore alternatives, and express your ideas and feelings

• Help your child learn to cooperate

• Use natural and logical consequences to develop your child's sense of responsibility

• Use family meetings to share concerns, feelings, complaints, compliments, settle conflicts, and plan family recreation.
